As a woman of color and an immigrant, women's status in this country whether in voting rights, equality at home, at work, equal pay at work, opportunity to pursue higher education, the right to reproductive rights, right to equality concerns me a lot. 2020 saw the centennial celebration of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing a Woman’s Right to Vote. This painting was painted in honor of that, to relay a positive message of upliftment and empowerment of women of all colors. Picasso’s cubism and Piet Mondrian’s modern abstract expressionist style influenced the abstract depiction, and coupled with vivid colors it lends a playfulness to the positive empowering theme of having a future with no gender bias.
