Artist Statement

The past few years during the pandemic and the previous politically tumultuous years has brought me face to face with issues here, in the United States that frankly surprised me. Being a woman, a person of color and an immigrant were now political agendas that one has to now fight for. Being a woman has its challenges, whether it be voting rights, fight for equal pay, right to choose, reproductive rights (whether we use it or not), and the right to be safe and feel protected no matter what. Immigrants and people of color face the same eroding of civil liberties and rights all over the country – in fact it is worse in some states. For me it was like looking into the mirror, facing the eroding and eradication of our rights and arming myself to fight through painting. The painting also highlights the sisterhood bond, the coming together of women from all walks of life to fight for our rights and our existence.
