My name is Nicola White. I am a London based Mudlark and Artist. What is a Mudlark I hear you say. Well I search for history along the banks of the River Thames in London at low tide. I research the objects and I use some of them in my artwork, bringing these items discarded by society into the limelight. In 2016 I founded “ArtReach” which provides a platform for artists on death row at San Quentin prison to show their creativity be that art or creative writing or poetry. The purpose of ArtReach is to provide a platform for artists on San Quentin’s death row to exhibit their art and creativity, both online and in a variety of exhibition venues and talks. It also aims to humanise the people incarcerated on death row, utilising art as a vehicle to raise awareness, and to generate debate and discussion about capital punishment. ArtReach believes that art and poetry has the power and ability to transform thinking, consciousness, behaviour and lives. Over the years we have held several exhibitions, both in the USA and in London. We have also held many online exhibitions.
